What are the Selection Process and Timeline?
Creative Capital provides project-based grants to artists pursuing adventurous projects in six different disciplines: literature, performing arts, visual arts, film/video, new genres, and emerging fields. The first step in applying for a Creative Capital grant is to submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) through our online application system.
Our four-stage review process begins with the LOI, which is reviewed by at least two program officers and up to five outside experts. If your project is recommended for funding, you will be invited to submit a full proposal.
The full proposal is reviewed by the entire Creative Capital Award Committee—a group of approximately 30 artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, dancers, and other professionals from across the country—over the course of two days. If your project is recommended for funding by the Award Committee, you will be invited to negotiate a contract with us.
The negotiation process usually takes one to two months, during which time we work with you to finalize the scope and budget for your project and determine any additional support we can provide beyond the grant amount. We also conduct a final review of your project to ensure that it meets our eligibility requirements and that you have the capacity to complete it successfully.
